The Eagle's Nest (1), a haunting relic of the Nazi era, perches atop the majestic Kehlstein Mountain in southern Germany.
Atop Kehlstein Mountain in southern Germany, a chilling reminder of history sits nestled amongst the clouds. The Eagle's Nest, built by the Nazis in 1939 as a symbol of their twisted ideology, now serves as an unsettling echo of a dark past.
Today, a restaurant occupies the space, offering breathtaking views to hikers. It's a strange juxtaposition - a place designed for world domination now serves as a place of peaceful reflection. While enjoying the scenery, it's impossible to ignore the weight of history that lingers.
We combined our visit to the Eagle's Nest with a trip to the charming city of Salzburg (2) in Austria. The journey, mostly through picturesque German towns, offered a beautiful contrast to the starkness of the Eagle's Nest.
Prepare for hair-raising turns and sheer drops along the winding road.
Get ready to scramble up rocky paths!
